Research Specialist, Mass Spectrometry Core
The Mass Spectrometry Core at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) has an open position for a full-time Research Specialist with a background in Mass Spectrometry, Metabolomics & Proteomics. The holder of this position will perform research in mass spectrometry to identify small molecules and peptides/protein analysis, identification and structure elucidation; define research projects, consult with customers in designing experimental plans, carry out own research projects, and train other lab personnel in various techniques and research equipment ; document and disseminate of research activities and results for publication, reports, outreach and user communities.
We are seeking an experienced candidate who has a Bachelor’s degree in analytical chemistry, biochemistry or related discipline required. Master’s degree and Ph.D preferred. A minimum of 4 years of laboratory research experience in analytical chemistry and specific areas of sample preparation as listed above for Bachelor’s degree, 2 years for Master’s and 1 year for PhD. Mass spectrometry-based lipidomics / metabolomics experience is required. Mass spectrometry-based proteomics experience is preferred. Candidates must be comfortable with computer equipment and software tools commonly used in research histology. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
